Congratulations Dr Tom Harrison

Congratulations to Dr Tom Harrison!

Tom successfully defended his thesis this afternoon. Tom’s PhD focused on the small variant surface antigens of red blood cells infected with malaria parasites. He was the first to visualise how one of the RIFINs binds to an inhibitory immune receptor, suppressing immune cell response. He followed this up with the first structural view of one of the PIR proteins, rounding up a very successful thesis. Thanks to Alister Craig and Paul Elliot for examining.

Tom is staying with us until autumn 2021 so look out for more discoveries next year! But first a socially distanced drink.
