Nawsad talks about blood-stage malaria vaccine design at Gordon conference

grc talk

Nawsad was given the chance to present our work on “Design and pre-clinical testing of RH5top, an improved blood-stage vaccine immunogen” to prevent malaria at the 2025 Malaria Gordon conference, with a talk and a poster.

He described our long-term project to use rational structure-guided design to generate the best possible vaccine immunogen based on the PfRH5 protein. Guided by years of our structural studies of protein complexes involved in erythrocyte invasion and their inhibition by monoclonal antibodies, Nawsad showed how he designed RH5top. He revealed that in pre-clinical studies this outperformed the current best blood-stage malaria vaccine immunogens. We enjoyed many exciting discussions about how to take RH5top into the clinic!

Thanks to the conference organisers for a fantastic meeting!
