Max studied Biochemistry at the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague, where he researched asparaginases, enzymes used in leukaemia therapies. This was through bioinformatics during his undergraduate studies, while during his master's he used protein design to develop a compact monomeric version of the enzyme.
Max is joining the lab in 2026 for his DPhil as a member of Merton College, funded by the Kyner-Field Graduate Scholarship in Structural Vaccinology. His project investigates how blood-stage malaria surface proteins interact with neutralising antibodies, to inform rational structure-guided vaccine design. He is excited about recent advances in computational protein design and their potential for developing improved malaria vaccines.
In his free time, Max enjoys playing tennis, 3D modelling and visualisation, and good coffee.
