Richard joined us in April 2021 as a rotation student on the Wellcome Trust D. Phil. programme in Cellular Structural Biology and stayed with us for his D. Phil. He studied the structural and molecular mechanism of the scavenger receptor, CD163, showing how it recognises diverse forms of haptoglobin-haemoglobin to allow haemoglobin detoxification.
He previously worked on activation mechanisms of the growth factor activin A with Marko Hyvönen in Cambridge and the metallo-β-lactmase IMP13 with Michael Sattler in Munich.
